How to Prepare Images for Printing
A short checklist for matching pixel dimensions to a physical print.
Choose a print size
Decide the final width and height, including whether the image will be cropped to a different aspect ratio.
Check available pixels
Divide pixel width and height by the chosen print dimensions in inches. The smaller value is the limiting effective image density.
Account for bleed
If the printer requests bleed, extend artwork beyond the trim edge on every side. Ask the print provider for the bleed amount and export settings.
Export and inspect
Use the provider’s requested color profile and file format. Review a proof when color or edge placement matters.
